Beach Glass (Sea Glass)
Beach glass or Sea Glass is formed when broken glass is tumbled. Tumbling removes sharp edges, softens the color of the original glass, and creates free form shapes. The glass can be wrapped, drilled or set in findings to make jewelry or other decorative items.
"Genuine" beach glass is found on the shores of lakes, rivers, oceans and other bodies of water in nearly every color, size and shape.
Beach glass can also be created using a rock tumbler to simulate natural waves and grinding. Most "simulated" beach glass is virtually indistinguishable from "genuine". Be careful if you are creating your own beach glass wear gloves and safety goggles if breaking glass into pieces and when handling unpolished pieces.
