Emeralds are said to have the power to ward off evil spirits, and in ancient times was used as a cure for epilepsy, dysentery and to strengthen weak eyesight.
Today, synthetic emeralds are created in labs, and are more affordable than rare naturally formed stones. While natural or synthetic emeralds are not generally used for beading, stones can be placed in settings for necklaces, earrings, rings, and broaches using proper tools.
