Garnet

Garnets are actually a group of several different colored minerals, most commonly understood as the deep brown-red pyrope or the violet-red almandite. Garnets can be found in many locations world-wide, including the United States; gemstone quality deposits are found in Czechoslovakia, South Africa and Australia. The colors of Garnets can range from deep green to yellow to deep red.

Garnet photoGarnet is the January birthstone and represents the second or the sixth wedding anniversary. It is said to have qualities that are useful in warding off bad dreams, can be used as protection from theft and enhances creativity. Garnet is also thought to attract love and ones soul mate.

The deep red shades of familiar Garnets are elegantly set off by Freshwater Pearls and gold accents. Clear Swarovski crystals also lend sparkle and sophistication.

Garnets are available in a wide range of grades, look for better grades (B or better) as lower grades will have muddied color and many inclusions. Garnets are a good choice to add perceived value to your jewelry pieces. Use good quality findings and accompanying beads to enhance the worth of your piece.
