Creating Custom Price Tags For Your Work
One of the biggest challenges I've had was to create hang tags and earring cards that reflected my business image, looked professional, and gave enough information so a buyer could contact me. I experimented with various formats, stickers, ring tags, and more, but was unhappy with the results.
I finally came upon a solution which worked for me, and it may be what you are looking for too.
A new product from Avery, Matte White Clean Edge Business Cards (stock 28877) are the right card stock weight, have great perforations, and print cleanly on my HP laser printer. Other types of clean edge business cards were too lightweight, or didn't have nice perfs. These are "perf-ect".
I created my cards for both earring cards and for price tags for necklaces, bracelets, anklets and watches. The only difference is that I print on both ends of the cards (run it through twice, flipping the sheet over) for the price tags.
Using the Avery templates for Word (available on their site), I printed business information on the bottom of every business card. My cards stress my company name, that the item is handcrafted, where I am located, and my web site url. I used a medium gray font, which is unobtrusive, classy, but still readable.
For the earring cards, I put a clear, sticky hang tag on the back (available from Rings N Things) and punch two small holes just below the hang tag using a T pin. (For lever-back earrings, I use a tiny hole-punch I found in a scrap booking aisle at Michael's.) I hand write the types of stones or beads used, and any other pertinent information (nickel-free wire, sterling, etc.,) on the back , along with the price of the item. Hang the earrings on the card, and they are done!
For the price tags, I cut the cards in half, then fold them in half. I punch a small hole in the corner to hang a ribbon through, and write the item information on the inside of the card. Using a piece of ribbon, I tie the hang tag on the piece of jewelry on a ring or some other component where it won't slip off or won't be in the way if someone wants to try it on.
I really like these tags, and they are fairly quick and inexpensive to make. I've had clients and retail shops comment about how nice they look, and that they love the fact that the stones and other components are written up for future reference. Clients keep these little cards, and since my contact information is right on the other side, it's just one more way to get them to remember me!
