The Traveling Jewelry Show
Always looking for a way to promote or sell my jewelry, I read an article about making a "traveling jewelry show" and decided to try it out for myself. The first time I opened my "little black bag", I sold almost $100 in less than 20 minutes. I can't guarantee the same results for everyone or for every time, but it's worth a try!
The bag:
I have a medium-large (18"x15") black micro fabric bag (it was actually a freebie when hubby bought me some Calvin Klein perfume). The bag is completely open, with just a snap on the top and large handles so I can sling it over my shoulder.
What's Inside:
-- Velvet rolls for necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and watches. If you are on a budget, go to a thrift shop and buy the largest velvet dress you can find. Cut it up (the skirts work great) into large rectangles, sew edges together (right sides in) and turn right side out. Slip stitch the open seam shut. Lay necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and watches flat, parallel to each other with about 1/2" between each, and roll up tightly. Lay in the bag your jewelry will be safe, unkinked, and untangled.
-- Earrings on cards can be rolled in velvet rolls as well, or you can use a small display (10-12 earrings). Cover the display with cloth or a protective bag.
-- A small mirror in the bag for viewing necklaces or earrings.
-- Ziplock bags for purchases, a couple of small gift boxes and elastic bows if anyone is purchasing for a gift, and sales books to keep track of your sales. I do these "shows" as cash/check and carry, but you could also drop in supplies to accept credit cards if you'd like.
The Stock:
I stocked a variety of styles of jewelry, with several different price points within those styles. A couple of bangles, a few strung bracelets, a couple of linked/wire-worked bracelets, different styles and lengths of necklaces and earrings...however, I try to keep my stock at less than overwhelming...less than a dozen choices of each type of jewelry, the exception being same style offered in several different colors. Because my "show" is quick, I don't want my clients to feel like they can't make a choice from what I have.
The "Show":
No special displays are needed whether you are at lunch or at a football game, all you need is a semi-flat surface to unroll your velvet rolls, and allow your friends and clients to take a look at what you have! At these quickie shows, I offer an instant 15-20% off the marked price I'm not having to pay for a booth or table or commission fee, and it gives an instant deal to anyone who buys!
Instant gratification for both you and your clients the "show" can be over in less than 30 minutes and you can finish your lunch or get back to cheering on the team.
Keep the bag in your car or office, rotating stock to keep it fresh and offer a new "show" on a regular basis.
