Wrapping A Briolette

Wrapping a briolette or top-drilled stone is easy, once you have the hang of it! The trick is to use light-weight wire so that it conforms to the shape of your briolette.

Wrapping A Briolette - original artworkI use a good length (15" approximately) of 26g wire to wrap several briolettes at a time.

1. Thread the wire through the briolette. Leave a tail of 1.5cm on one end.
2. Bend both ends of the wire around the tip of the briolette. The two ends should be parallel, not crossing each other.
3. Using a round-nosed pliers, grasp both wires approximately .5cm from the top of the briolette. This will be the length of your loop stem. (If you have a very large stone, you may want a larger loop stem; adjust as necessary.)
4. Grasp the longer of the two wires and wrap a loop around the pliers toward you.
5. Continue wrapping around the stem 3-4 times until you just reach the top of the briolette.
6. Remove the pliers, clip excess from both wires.
7. Straighten loop as needed.
