Leather and Silver Lacing Necklace
Here is an easy "dress up" for leather lacing necklaces. Use a pendant with a large bail and you will be able to do a quick-change to another look in a flash!
Level: Easy
Materials
Leather lacing
Beadalon Satin Silver beading wire
20g sterling wire
Small lobster clasp
Measure a length of leather lacing the desired length of your necklace plus 3". Cut the lacing at this length. Cut two pieces of Beadalon Satin Silver beading wire the same length as your leather lacing.
Using the 20g sterling wire, begin a wrap approximately 5/8" from the end of the lacing and wire. Continue to tightly wrap toward the short end of the lacing and beading wire, making sure all three pieces are wrapped inside the wire. Crimp the end closest to the center so that it tightly holds the lacing and beading wire inside the wrap. Make a small loop at the end of the wrap and clip excess wire.
Braid the three strands (leather lacing, two strands of beading wire) together. Keep braids tight enough that they will stay in place. When you have finished braiding, hang your pendant on the braided lacing (just in case your bail is not large enough to go over the wrapped ends!).
Begin to wrap the leather lacing and two
strands of beading wire 5/8" from the end of the desired length of your necklace in the same manner that you did on the opposite end. When you have wrapped 5/8" and have crimped the wrap so that it is secure, cut excess leather and beading wire that is protruding from the end of the wrap. Make a loop in the end of the sterling wire. Connect the lobster clasp to one end loop you can use the other loop instead of a jump ring for the clasp.
